Why write a dissertation?

Because of my belief that

“you can massively improve the quality of a product by resolving a tiny fraction of its problems”*

The “product,” for me, is science policy … so I’m seeking to resolve only a tiny fraction of the problems that exist within science policy in coastal areas: how to develop a long-term vision that accepts the scientific uncertainty inherent in climate science in favor of opening opportunities for the sustainable and resilient development of coastal communities.
